Privacy Policy

GoBursar is a service operated by D. Developments ("GoBursar," "we," "us"). It helps students research scholarships and write essays. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Questions? Email support@gobursar.com.

Information we collect

Account: your email address, and your name if you sign in with Google.

Profile and documents: anything you add to your profile (school, major, graduation year, and the resume or story you paste) and any documents you upload, such as a resume, past essays, or award letters.

Scholarship activity: the scholarship links or text you paste, the briefs and fit verdicts we generate, your saved scholarships and their status, and the essay help and chat messages you create.

Essays you submit for review: if you paste one of your own drafts to be checked against a scholarship, we store that draft and the feedback on it in your account, so you can come back to it and see what changed between versions.

Usage: basic technical and usage data (for example, which features you used and error logs) to run and improve the service and prevent abuse.

Payments: payments are processed by Stripe. We do not receive or store your full card number. We keep a record that a pass was purchased and, for a link paid by someone else, the email used at checkout.

How we use your information

We use your information to generate your cited briefs, fit verdicts, and essay help, personalize those results to your real background, operate and secure the service, process payments, and respond to support requests.

How AI processing works

To produce briefs and essay help, the scholarship text and the profile and document content you provide are sent to our AI and research providers (currently Google's Gemini API and web-search grounding). This processing happens so we can generate your results. We do not sell your information, and we do not use your essays or documents to advertise to you.

We pay for Google's API rather than using its free tier, and that difference matters for you. Google's terms for paid services state that it does not use prompts or responses to improve its models. On the free tier it does, and human reviewers may read submissions. Google does keep limited logs to detect abuse and to meet legal requirements.

Your essays, specifically

Essays are personal, and students often write about hard things, so here is exactly what happens to yours. We do not read your essays. Nobody here browses them and there is no queue where a person looks them over. The narrow exceptions are if you ask us to look at something to help with a support problem, if we have to investigate abuse or a security issue, or if the law requires it.

To produce a review, your essay text is sent to our AI provider (currently Google's Gemini API). That is the one outside service that processes it. Because we use Google's paid tier, Google states it does not use what we send to improve its models, which is not true of its free tier.

We do not sell your essays, we do not use them to train AI models, and we never show them to scholarship sponsors or committees. Sharing a brief with a public link never includes an essay. You can delete a scholarship, which also removes the brief, chats, drafts and reviews saved under it, or delete your whole account, yourself at any time.

When we share information

We share information with the service providers that run GoBursar: hosting and database (Supabase and Netlify), AI and research (Google Gemini), payments (Stripe), and email delivery (Resend), which sends deadline reminders and therefore receives your email address, the name on your profile, and the scholarship the reminder is about. You can turn reminders off on your profile. Each processes data only to provide their service to us, and if you accept the cookie notice the measurement tools described below also load.

Cookies and measurement: the cookies needed to run the service always work. Only if you accept our cookie notice do we load analytics and advertising measurement: Microsoft Clarity (how the site is used), and advertising tags from Meta and Google (so we can tell whether an ad brought someone here). If you decline, none of them load. You can decline, and you can clear these anytime in your browser.

Shared briefs stay limited. If you choose to share a brief with a public link, that page shows only the brief itself. It never includes your profile, your documents, your fit verdict, or your chats.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your account and its data yourself at any time from your profile page, or email support@gobursar.com and we will do it for you. We may keep limited records we need for legal or accounting reasons, such as a proof of purchase.

Security

We use reputable providers and reasonable safeguards to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.

Students and age

GoBursar is intended for students age 13 and older. If you are under 18, please use it with a parent or guardian's involvement. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product changes. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page.
